SEAir makes boating history

SEAir is convinced that the future lies in foiling boats. And since actions speak louder than words, for the last 3 years the SME in Lorient, on the west coast of France, has been injecting all its energy and expertise into this technological feat.

When SEAir succeeded in getting a foiling RIB airborne – a world first – in July 2017, they became the gold standard in foil integration in sailing yachts and motorboats, and, justifiably, a very popular new outfitter!

Groupe Beneteau, the boating industry’s global leader, has now put their faith in SEAair’s expertise in foiling systems for an ambitious avant-garde project: the design of the 1st foiling concept boat.
A foiling powerboat of over 9 metres, weighing a little over 4 metric tonnes, with a passenger capacity of ten! Bénéteau, SEAir, DEMS, Noval and Suzuki, the partners of this project, met 9 months ago and set to work from a blank canvas. What makes this project different to previous SEAir collaborations. In this case, the boat was designed completely around the foiling system. Following a number of different configurations and profile simulations, 4 lifting side foils were chosen.
The prototype was launched in the utmost of secrecy in Saint-Gilles -Croix-de-Vie (Vendée) in early February. The first trips out to sea were conclusive: new sensations, good performance and improved comfort. The teams are now focussing on the development of the prototype to make foiling underway as safe as possible. Here again, SEAir’s expertise will play an important role, with an extensive study of the data from each of the boat’s trips.

Hervé Gastinel, Managing Director of Groupe Beneteau
“Once again, in the wake of the Figaro Beneteau 3, we have shown our ability to innovate with Groupe Beneteau’s first foiling powerboat. I would like to congratulate the teams who successfully met the challenge of designing and building this boat.”

Richard Forest, SEAir Founder
“ We are really proud that Groupe Beneteau, world leader of the boating industry, asked for SEAir’s expertise on a project that will shape the future of our two companies. I was impressed by their ability to work using agile and iterative methods, often required for innovation, and their wonderful ability to take recommendations on board. The result of this team work is magnificent!
